Amy Thompson - Fine artist

Peterborough born artist, 27 years old, getting closer to 30. With a passion for art, experimenting with the use of colours to create a sense of something familiar, but with questionable fantasy. Join Amy on her journey and the imaginary world that she creates.

As you have probably gathered, my name is Amy, born and currently live in Peterborough. It sounds really cliche, but i started to have a passion for colours and painting since i was about 4 years old. Throughout primary and secondary school, my interests in the arts where consistent and i continued to be inspired by shapes, and developing techniques. I particularly remember going through a extreme hippy phase in my early teens and took an interest in surrealist art. Probably also at the same time as listening to classic rock music and thinking i was from the late 60s/early 70s. Though around this time of my life is when i took a more serious indulgence with art making, experimenting with colours, clashing, and creating imaginary scenes. Helping me to be more inspired and look at the different themes and subjects that i wanted to explore and were now open to me.

Art has lead me to university, where i took a degree in Educational studies and Visual Arts. Where i learnt to have a different understanding of artmaking, making sure to be more careful about the visual choices that i made and how i convey my messages through art more effectively.  In particular, i took a keen interest in female artists and the impact and messages they put out in the art world, and how they influenced other artists. Currently, i have started work as a Activities coordinator and i would like to carry on making art in my spare time, my dream is to either one day be able to work full time from home as an artist, or use my art skills to help others in need. To one day become an art therapist and do a masters degree.

Artists that influence me are;

Francis Bacon, Lucian Freud, Jenny Saville, Gerhard Richter, Nan Goldin, Francesca Woodman, Cindy Sherman, Frida Kahlo, Picasso, Dali, Ai Wei Wei, Banksy, David Hockney and tons more.

Thought I would straighten the hair this
